In collaboration with Al Ansar Welfare Association, TECBO successfully distributed 440 sanitary pads to vulnerable school-going children. This humanitarian effort aims to address a crucial aspect of adolescent health and well-being, ensuring that young girls can attend school comfortably and confidently.
TECBO proudly facilitates the Big Sister, Little Sister Mentorship Program, inspiring and empowering young girls to excel academically and in life. This impactful program fosters independence and resilience, preparing these girls to become contributing members of society.
Our Executive Director played a pivotal role as a member of the Mandera Education Task Force, a collaboration of education stakeholders. TECBO actively engaged in reviewing education needs at the behest of the Governor of Mandera County, advocating for the prioritization of educational initiatives to uplift the community.
TECBO empowers communities by developing skills, focusing on Rhamu Technical and Vocational Training Centre. Tailored programs in tailoring and baking engage women and youth, promoting economic independence. Objectives include enhancing financial abilities, addressing school dropout, and ensuring education access, especially for girls.
TECBO works to end child marriages through community awareness, engaging religious leaders, and youth programs. Integrated into initiatives like Big Sister and Little Sister, we aim for positive societal change by addressing poverty, gender inequality, and children's rights, emphasizing education to break the cycle.
TECBO is involved in peace building and cohesion activities as evidenced in Inter- Peace supported documentary at the Yabicho farming project. The leadership demonstrated by TECBO, has strengthened inter-community collaboration by fostering sustainable farming practices and finding shared solutions to common problems. Over fifty farmers fifty (50) are supported through an integrated program where agro-pastoralism and cohesion building are integrated. The promotion of understanding, trust and inclusivity has enhanced good relation between TECBO leadership and the local community. Tecbo gives Peace Talks to school-going children so that they remain constructive and destructive during conflicts. TECBO collaborates with local and national Peace actors such as Inter-Peace, Network for Peace, Cohesion and Heritage Trust (NEPCOH), National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and other organizations in Mandera County.
In our ongoing Health Program, TECBO recently organized a community
sensitization event on World Stroke Day, October 29th. Participants eagerly engaged in learning about
the risk factors of stroke and the crucial first steps in stroke prevention. With a particular
emphasis on checking blood pressure, as 90% of strokes are linked to modifiable risk factors, we are
committed to enhancing public awareness and understanding of stroke. Our efforts focus on prevention,
symptom awareness, and addressing the unique needs of stroke survivors.
On November 14th, TECBO conducted a Free Diabetes Education and
Screening event, reaching over 600 individuals. Through this initiative, 152 participants were
screened, and 17 were referred for further diagnosis and treatment. The event encompassed assessments
of blood pressure, weight, and sugar levels. Aligned with World Diabetes Day's global theme, our
activities aimed at raising awareness of diabetes as a critical public health concern. We emphasized
collective and individual actions for improved prevention, diagnosis, and management, especially
within ASAL populations.
TECBO acknowledges fully the innovations in agriculture and has established a
modern integrated farm known as “BEER JANAY II” meaning the Oasis of Paradise II
at Dariqa, Girissa Location. The farm which acts as a Demonstration farm is faced
with shortage of water but embraces drip irrigation system.In the Yabicho Farm, Tecbo has trained farmers on
fodder production and
harvesting which had positive impact during the four years drought.
During the challenging drought season of early 2023, TECBO responded
proactively by providing meals to partner schools through community support. Additionally, the
organization offered essential water tracking services to seven sites in Awara, Jabi, Tossi, and
Mubarak. This initiative not only sustains communities during difficult times but also emphasizes the
organization's commitment to holistic well-being.
"Beer Janay I," meaning Oasis of Paradise 1 in Darusalam village, epitomizes the transformative power of converting barren landscapes into thriving, sustainable grounds. TECBO, in collaboration with Islamic Relief Kenya and Sun-Culture's technology, has successfully planted over 150 diverse fruit trees, addressing climate change challenges. This eco-friendly initiative not only demonstrates the tangible outcomes of dedicated collaboration but also underscores our organization's commitment to addressing the undeniable reality of climate change.

In arid areas, climate change negatively affects education, livelihoods, and poverty. The planted fruit trees not only contribute to improved nutrition but also play a crucial role in enhancing education and overall well-being in these communities. The sustainable project exemplifies the positive correlation between environmental initiatives, education, and community development.
TECBO joins forced with local partners on National Tree Planting Day to advance Kenya’s ambitious goal of15 billion trees in a decade. Our collective efforts speak volumes on climate action, biodiversity conservation, and empowering youth through climate education.
